EndNote X7

EndNote is a computer program which can help with referencing and intext citations for your studies.

Introduction

EndNote is a computer program which can help with referencing and intext citations for your studies.

The library runs sessions for postgraduate students and staff on an adhoc basis.  See the Library Blog, on the Unitec Library Home Page for advertised sessions.  Sessions for upper level undergraduate students may be available on request.

Some knowledge of referencing and experience of creating references from scratch is essential before using EndNote.  To use EndNote successfully, you need to be familiar with the citation style you are using (most commonly APA at Unitec).

Unitec currently uses EndNote X7 which is installed on all student PCs. Copies of the programs for PCs and MACs can be borrowed from all 3 library branches for use with your own computers.  Unitec staff computers must have a job logged with IT for installation.

Using more than one computer? - read this!

This tip is important  if you move between a computer at Unitec and at home. Your Endnote Library will become corrupted if you don't do this.

Each time you change computers you must SAVE your LIBRARY

1.  Open your EndNote Library
 2.  Go to File > Compressed Library  Do not change any of the default settings in this dialogue box.
 3. Click Next > Save.
 4.  Save the file to a USB stick. This will save your EndNote Library and any files that you have saved within the library.
5.  When you move to another computer, open the saved Endnote Library from the USB stick and save all your new references to this saved Endnote Library. When you stop working (change computer again), repeat the process from point 1.
